Auctions 101: A Beginner's Guide to the Auction House
Does the thought of going to a live auctions and participating give you the cold sweats? Fear not; an auction is nothing to be scared of if you know what to expect. John Londoner says auctions are exciting, fast-paced, educational and arguably the best source for bargains. But, he admits, his first live auction was much like the first time he walked into a casino. He wasn’t sure of protocol; he was uncomfortable betting money; and he was sure everyone had picked him out as a novice. John provides some tips that helped him become more comfortable with the auction experience and might just help you understand better what to expect the first time you raise your hand to bid on that perfect piece.

Wet Worry – Dealing with Water Damage
In this year of what seems to be extraordinary adverse weather events with tornadoes and flooding, and with more flooding looking imminent as the past winter’s snowpack starts to melt, now might be a good time to talk about excess water and its effects on your furniture. Worthologist Fred Taylor says that if you are lucky, you will never have standing water in your house to attack your antique furniture. But if you do, there’s no need to turn on the waterworks. He’s got advice on how to first rescue and then restore wet furniture.
